NEMA Premium™ Selection Guide
National electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) in conjunction with the US electric motor industry has established NEMA Premium™ efficiency standards as the highest nominal efficiencies to date, and is endorsed by the consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE). CEE members include electric utilities, administrators of state and regional efficiency programs, and environmental and research groups. CEE's motor specifications are used as a basis for public motor efficiency programs, which may include rebates or financing.
Previous federal minimum specifications set forth by the Energy Policy Act (EPACT) of 1992 went into effect in October 1997 for General Purpose Motors 1 to 200HP ONLY. Today's NEMA Premium™ standards apply to General Purpose as well as Definite and Special Purpose Motors 1 to 500HP. This program is the FIRST, true industry-wide comprehensive definition of premium efficiency for motors used within the United States.
NEMA Premium guidelines will allow customers to easily select and identify these motors by the registered trademark (logo) on the nameplates. These standards not only specify motor efficiency but also temperature, torque, inrush current and power factor which align with NEMA MG1 design standards.
NEMA Premium motors will dramatically cut your energy costs, conserve energy, and improve motor system reliability and performance while maintaining existing compliance with NEC and other safety regulations. Additionally, there is no need to upgrade starters or wiring in your existing systems with the installation of these motors.
Note: NEMA Premium is a registered trademark of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association and may only be used on products covered by a memorandum of understanding between the manufacturer and NEMA.
Annual Energy Savings
NEMA Premium efficiency motors
will save you significant energy costs, resulting in a faster payback on your
purchase. Comparisons are based on industry average efficiency
standards. Based on a Dayton TEFC motor, 1800RPM, 0.07/KWH@ 4400hours.
Insulation Life versus Temperature
NEMA Premium efficiency motors run cooler and
operate at a lower temperature rise which increases insulation life, grease
life, and ultimately the life of the motor. You will enjoy lower maintenance
and air conditioning costs and less downtime.

A wide
selection of 1 to 300HP NEMA Premium efficiency motors are available.
